There are certain restaurant that you will always remember. Whether they are your favorite restaurant or the neighborhood diner everyone eats at, certain places hold a spot in your heart. Don's Oasis in Freeport was that way for many people. Since 1970 this American diner has been serving some of the best food in Northern Illinois. Anyone who's ever been there can tell you about the potatoes that are to die for.

Unfortunately, Don Sala passed away and his restaurant stood dormant for more than a year. Many thought their chance to have those Albanian potatoes once more was long gone. That was until recently when Eric White, owner of Benchwarmers Bar & Restaurant, decided to bring Don's Oasis back to life.

After talking with Don's son, Eric re-opened Don's Oasis and is keeping the tradition of Albanian potatoes alive! The restaurant will be open from 6 a.m. til 2 p.m. every day of the week and eventually the hours will be expanded. They also offer delivery according to the Journal Standard.

There is still some decorating that needs to be done and plans for a grand opening will be in the future, but if you want a good home cooked meal from a Freeport staple, check out Don's Oasis at 519 N. West Ave.
