My life is surrounded by first responders, and that is something I am very proud of. I am the daughter, granddaughter and wife of ex-firefighters, and some of our closest friends work in the fire and medical services. I can tell you first hand it takes a special kind of person to devote their lives to saving and serving others, and this week's Hometown Hero is a perfect example of just how awesome first responders truly are.

Here is the nomination letter we received from Colin Schindler about this week's Hometown Hero, Casey Bellard;

Casey is a firefighter paramedic on the City of Beloit Fire Dept. Casey takes pride in everything he does and loves his career. He puts others above himself every shift day and he loves to do it. His career is his passion and his love for it and his above and beyond efforts should be recognized. He is a hero in every sense of the word.

We all know it takes an extreme amount of courage to face the things first responders see every day on the job, but I think we might not fully realize the sacrifices that come with such devotion. Firefighters like Casey swear to protect strangers, and they put their lives on the line for it every day. They miss many special moments with family to keep us safe, and they have some of the biggest, giving hearts you will ever see. Saying thank you never seems like enough, but I hope the $100 Amazon gift card we are giving Casey thanks to our friends at Gustafson's Furniture & Mattress will help let him know how very much his services are appreciated. Thank God there are people like Casey in this world, we would be lost without them!

Do you know an extraordinary human like Casey Bellard? Nominate them as a Hometown Hero and tell us their story, here. It is truly an honor to be able to read each of your nomination letters every week.
