Another New Rockford Mural Just Popped Up on W State Street

It's like magic, every time you turn around a new mural is waiting for you in downtown Rockford. 

When I started working here in Rockford in 2013, I remembering hearing 'there's nothing to do here,' and 'why would you go downtown,' and many versions of those two statements time and time again, but you know what? Those days are SO over.

We know for the past few years that downtown Rockford has been on the rise.

From new businesses filling old storefronts, huge celebratory events, and those downtown murals that arrived pre-pandemic.

Then, you know, that pandemic hit Rockford pretty hard.

But, it looks like the city is coming back with a vengeance.

Not only have we seen new businesses pop into the downtown area, but the beautiful new murals that are gracing so many of our buildings, including this one, just South of Court Street on W. State Street.

I watched this mural change every day for the past few weeks and when it first was being painted I had no idea what it was going to be.

But now I see it's a huge sign of success, featuring some of the greatest names to come out of Rockford.

I drove by this morning again and there was more color and fun, so I'm not entirely sure if it's complete, but it's definitely brightening up the city, even as we go through this rainy, gloomy week.
