Sunday night, deputies were called to the 4300 block of E. Highway 14 (of Janesville) at 7:57 p.m. for a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a group of motorcycles. When they arrived they found two motorcyclists lying in the road.

Investigators said a group of five motorcycles were riding staggered west on Highway 14 behind a maroon 2000 Toyota Sienna when the driver of the Sienna had to take evasive action to avoid striking an eastbound Nissan SUV that had crossed the center line. The Nissan struck the lead motorcycle and the motorcycle behind it ejecting both drivers.

Deputies said the Nissan fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Mitchell J. Vance, 24, of Janesville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Devin J. Julius, 18, of Janesville, was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville where he was later pronounced dead.

Anyone with information about the Nissan is asked to call 608-757-2244.
