Winnebago County needs your help in acquiring another dog for their K-9 unit.

WTVO reported that it's been over year since the department went without out a dog since the death of Tex. They currently have 2 dogs in training right now, but would like to have 3 for their tactical unit.

However, the cost for another dog isn't in their budget. It costs approximately $76,000 to purchase, train and maintain just one dog.

Crime Stoppers, Bob Haedt, says, “For [the sheriff’s office] to get a dog, and to use it in the schools, and drug raids, and things like that, we think that it is just a great advantage for the community.”

The Rockford Area Crime Stoppers have set up a Go Fund Me account for any who would like to contribute to buy another dog for the K-9 department.
