Why on earth is there a giant sewing machine on Chicago's Magnificent Mile?

That was the larger than life question yesterday for anyone passing by 401 N. Michigan Ave. (ABC7)

"Sewing machine manufacturer Bernina [from Naperville] unveiled the 7-foot-tall, 12-foot-long statue" yesterday for National Sewing Machine Day and a way to celebrate the company turning 125 years old this year.

Bernina encourages everyone to take selfies with the giant machine and to "share them on social media for a chance to win a limited edition gold sewing machine, which retails for $2,499."

Well that's an interesting way to get noticed.

Heck I'd take a picture with it just because. Who cares about the sewing machine. I don't know how to, besides sewing buttons back on a shirt. However, my Mom sews. Hmmm.... maybe I could win it for her.
