Welcome to October, the month of pink and everything pumpkin and spooky. Taking a look at all the things we have to celebrate this month makes me excited, so let's highlight a few things to get you started.

October is most famously known for Halloween and as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but did you also know it is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, or National Pizza Month? How about Cookie Month or Apple Month? It's also Chili Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and this is just scratching the surface. If you are feeling like an over achiever and truly want to celebrate everything October has to offer, check out this complete list of October holidays I found.

Now, let's get to the celebration part. You probably already have the Halloween part handled, so let's talk breast cancer awareness. Fact is, all of our lives have been touched and tortured by breast cancer. I lost grandmothers because of it, dear friends are going through the fight as we speak, and I hate it. Let's all do our part to support the fighters, rejoice with the survivors, and fight the uphill battle that is still going on. Here are some simple ways to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, because it goes a lot further than just wearing pink. Speaking of pink...make plans now to join us at our Pink Party Friday, October 24 at Prosser's Chophouse in Machesney Park. It's gonna be a fabulous night out, guaranteed! Get more info and advance tickets here.

In honor of Adopt A Shelter Dog Month here's some tips to consider before you adopt a dog. Take it from me, there is nothing better than giving a dog a second chance at life and love. It will change your life, and make it a whole lot better. In fact, you could very well find your next true love at 8:40a.m. today when we introduce you to today's pet of the week from Winnebago County Animal Services. Don't miss it!

Now, for the big celebration this weekend. As I mentioned, October is also National Chili Month, so we say, "game on!" Join us this Saturday at Aviators Stadium in Loves Park, for the annual Chili Shootout and Wiff'n Chili event. Gates open at 9a.m. to check out the wiffle ball tournament, and chili sampling begins at 3p.m. Get tickets, and all other info here. I'm in charge of the theme for this year's chili, and let me just say this...your mummy will approve.  See ya Saturday!
