When the weather is this frightful outdoors in Northern Illinois, it's always a great idea to check in on loved ones and to make sure to take shelter. Here's a few of the warming centers available to handle this weeks frigid forecast.

 
Seven degrees below with wind chills of twenty five degrees below zero, and it doesn't take long to develop life threatening challenges each day when it comes to being outdoors.

If you're having heat problems, know of any homeless in the area, or even know a few elderly friends having a had time with staying warm, the place to check into is a heat center. These centers are welcoming and are available all across the area.

According to WREX TV-13, the following warming centers are available:

Winnebago County

  • Carpenter's Place, 1149 Railroad Ave., Rockford, Mon. - Fri. 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Winnebago County Justice Center, 650 W. State St., Rockford, Lobby open 24 hours daily.
  • Women's Crisis Center of the Rockford Rescue Mission, 809 Cedar St., Rockford, Women and children only, Daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Men's Crisis Center of the Rockford Rescue Mission, 715 W. State St., Rockford, Daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Pecatonica Village Hall, 405 Main St., Pecatonica, Mon. - Fri. 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Village of Machesney Park, 300 Roosevelt Rd., Machesney Park, Mon. - Fri. 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Illinois Department of Human Services Family Community Resource Center, 1111 N. Avon St., Rockford, Mon. - Fri. 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Boone County

  • Salvation Army, 422 S. Main St., Belvidere, Mon. - Fri. 9:00-11:45 a.m., 1:00-4:00 p.m.
  • Belvidere Public Safety Building, 615 N. Main St., Belvidere, 24 hours daily.
  • Belvidere Oasis/Tollway, East of Belvidere Toll Plaza on I-90, 24 hours daily.

Stephenson County

  • Department of Human Services, 1631 S. Galena Ave., Freeport,
  • Department of Human Services (DRS), 1828 S. West Ave., Freeport,

Ogle County

  • Department of Human Services, 106 N. Second St., Oregon.

DeKalb County

  • Tollway, West of Peace Rd. exit
  • Department of Human Services, 1629 Afton Rd., Sycamore

Also on a warm note, be sure to check on livestock and other animals to make sure they are properly cared for during the Winter.

A simple check in to make sure a friend or lived one is warm and doing OK, could save a life.
