Wal-Mart Adds Another Store to Rockford

If you like shopping at Wal-Mart, here's some good news.

They are adding another store to Rockford.

WIFR News reported over the weekend that it has been confirmed that Wal-Mart has purchased the South Gate Shopping Mall on Sandy Hollow Road.

Currently it's the home of several businesses, including the Big K, owned by K-Mart.

The change won't take place until 2020 as several of the businesses have signed leases. Once their leases end the property will be turned into a Wal-Mart Super Center.

Some area businesses are excited for this opportunity to offer another budget friendly store along with grocery on Rockford's south side. Others, however, aren't as enthusiastic about this.

Part of me understands the need for change and renovation in that area of the city, but another part of me is sad. I grew up shopping in the K-Mart and from time to time used the laundry mat.
