There has been some confusion as if Illinois ID Cards and Drivers Licenses will still be accepted for air travel this year. Here's an up date from The Department of Homeland Security.

Illinois residence can relax when it comes to travel for awhile.

Illinois identification cards and driver's licenses will still be valid to board commercial flights for domestic travel until Jan. 22, 2018 according to Secretary of State Jesse White.

According to WREX TV-13, "The Department of Homeland Security provided the update to the Secretary of State's Office that the state's noncompliance with the REAL ID Act won't affect flight boarding for a few more years".

The Secretary of State's Office says it will continue to work with Homeland Security and the Illinois General Assembly on the REAL ID Act.

Until then, safe travels.
