Charles Street between 11th and 18th Streets closed early Tuesday morning as Rockford Fire crews battled 2 separate home fires starting around 3:30 a.m.

As I woke up Tuesday morning I saw this alert from the Rockford Police Department, and automatically wondered what the heck happened.

According to WREX, Rockford Fire crews first arrived to a structure fire in the 2000 block of Charles St. at 3:20 a.m. this morning which left five adults and two children displaced. Then about ten minutes later they were dispatched to a second fire at a vacant building in the 1600 block of Charles St.

Investigations into both fires is underway, and there is no word yet whether these two incidences are related or if foul play was involved.
