After using Instacart once a week over the past month I learned two things that changed how to shop through the online grocery-buying app.

Instacart made it's debut in Rock River Valley in April offering grocery delivery from Schnucks at Harlem and N. Alpine in Loves Park. Many people will say this is a great option for seniors and others that are unable to drive themselves to the store for daily necessities, but it's also great for families with busy schedules. This is why my wife and I use the app multiple times a month. I think we've finally figured it out and definitely picked up a few tips from drivers.

The first piece of information I can share with you is about timing. Don't make plans immediately after placing your Instacart order. Expect the groceries delivered to your door from as long as two hours after your order has been processed. Also, double check your bags in case the driver has multiple deliveries.

Two other important tips come from Instacart delivery drivers I've met over the past few weeks.

1. Before you process your order make sure you uncheck "Service fees." Yes, you can do it and it will save you up to $10.

2. Don't leave a tip through the app, tip the driver with cash if you're able. One driver told me they don't see those tips... although I have not been able to confirm this online.

If you have any Instacart shopping tips share them in a comment.
