In the last few weeks, cases of the measles have been confirmed in 10 states. Two of those cases are right here in Illinois. The largest outbreak so far has been in Washington State where officials have confirmed 53 different cases.

There have not been any cases in Winnebago County as of yet, which is great news. Katherine O'Toole, public information officer for the health department said: " While Measles is a highly contagious disease, it is vaccine preventable and we encourage residents to make sure they're up to date on their vaccinations". The two cases that showed up in Illinois were in Champaign-Urbana and the two college students that caught it were not vaccinated.

In the last few years, there have been many misconceptions or beliefs that Vaccines have been linked to Autism or other issues, but that has been discounted due to falsifications in previous studies.
