Winnebago County Sheriff's Police arrested two Rockford men on Tuesday for allegedly impersonating police officers late last month.

Lawrence R. Jackson Jr., 22, of Rockford was charged with attempted false impersonation of a peace officer, false impersonation of a peace officer, fleeing to elude a police officer and violation of the cannabis control act.

Earl E. Jones, 28, of Rockford was charged with false impersonation of a peace officer attempted false impersonation of a peace officer and violation of the cannabis control act.

According to police, a woman reported she was driving near Harrison Ave. and Mulford Road in Rockford just before 10:30 p.m. April 30 when a dark-colored Pontiac attempted to stop her vehicle. The vehicle was reported to have flashing red and blue lights on the inside of the windshield.

The vehicle was allegedly occupied by two males who the woman did not believe were police officers. She continued to a nearby gas station as the other vehicle fled the area.

Officers later located the offending vehicle, which allegedly fled on two occasions before its occupants were taken into custody.

Jackson and Jones were taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
