The Loves Park Police Department reports that early this morning, at about 1:30 a.m. an explosion occurred in the 400 block of Theodore Street. A 2004 Ford F-150 was extensively damaged.

According to the Rockford Register Star, Loves Park Deputy Chief Chuck Lynde said the truck was parked on the street and that a patrol officer came upon the incident. Shortly after a call was put in to the  Winnebago County Sheriff's Police Bomb Unit to investigate the incidedent.

Several homes were evacuated, while the Bomb Squad rendered the vehicle safe. Residents were allowed to return home around 5:30 a.m.

As of late Friday afternoon no arrests have been made and no injuries have been reported.

The Rockford Register Star reports that  police are working with federal authorities and the investigation continues.
