This holiday season Transform Rockford will be hosting the first community-wide book drive to promote the importance of reading, and to "give the gift of literacy" to young children in the Rockford area.

Beginning Monday, November 19 though Friday, December 7, Transform Rockford will be collecting new and mint-condition books for ages infant to Pre-K at several locations all over Rockford.

According to their press release, the purpose of this book drive is "to bridge the Christmas break reading gap by putting books in the hands of young students and to encourage residents that children, as early as infants, should have access to books".

Pretty important mission wouldn't you say?

Here's the locations you can drop off books starting November 19th:

  • Midland State Bank locations in Rockford, Loves Park, and Machesney Park, as as well as Midland branches inside Schnucks.
  • All Rockford Police Precincts
  • Transform Rockford at 303 N Main St.
  • Winnebago County Administration Building
  • Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau
  • Rockford Chamber of Commerce
  • Rockford Area Economic Development Council
  • Rockford City Hall

All books collected will be given to children enrolled in early-childhood programs in the Rockford area to enjoy while on winter break with their families. Please consider donating some of your favorite books from childhood and keep the love for reading going strong in the future of Rockford.
