Tourism accounted for an additional 340 million dollars in the area in 2014. That’s a six percent increase from the previous year.

It’s also the highest percentage increase in any of the state’s metro areas. Winnebago County’s attractions and events also welcomed over 7.5 million guests in 2014, up nearly 3 percent.

According to WIFR TV-23, the top five attractions in Rockford were led by the Sportscore complexes, in second was Rock Cut State Park, followed by Carlson and River View Ice Arenas, in fourth was the BMO Harris Bank Center and coming in fifth was the Forest Hills Baseball Diamonds.

As for the top five events in the region in 2014, Rockford AirFest topped the list followed by the Fourth of July Celebration, the Winnebago County Fair, Stroll on State, and the Festival of Lights.
