Rockford isn't known for its donuts, but we do have plenty to be proud of including one place on the northwest side.

Since I arrived in town (especially after my family moved to the northwest side) trips to Doughboy's Donuts were a weekly occurrence.

Doughboy's Donuts, at 3451 N. Main Street, is nestled in a part of town that has seen much change. Businesses have come and go, even the streets have been widened, restructured and changed around Doughboy's but the quality of their donuts has not.

The best part of my weekly trips to Doughboy's was the variety.

It's nearly impossible to pick up just one or two donuts, so I just go for one of each.

If you're looking for something a bit different from a dozen donuts, order up a Chop Suey.

What's a Chop Suey? It's all the leftover batter mixed into one delicious donut. Pro tip: Pick up Chop Suey donuts closer to closing time (10 p.m.) because they run out real quick.

Other say they make the best donut holes in Rockford and they also whip up rolls, like Roses.

You can't really go wrong with an Angel Cream Peanut Square either.

A trip to Doughboy's Donuts feels like a trip to a small town donut shop. Usually, there are a few regulars inside reading the paper and talking about current events but the total casual laid-back atmosphere of the place makes it so special.
