With the warm weather here it's time to start looking forward to those "get away from it" weekends. No better way to do that than camping. Here's four of the best small campgrounds found in Northern Illinois.

According to TedVillaire.com these are the best small campgrounds to enjoy being in nature with a lot of hiking trails and quiet beauty.

White Pines State Park in Mount Morris, IL It also included in the article to make camping stops at Lowden State Park and Castle Rock State Park, both in Oregon ,IL which right down the road from Mount Morris, IL.

Most of these are so close to Rockford, you really can get away without having to go far away.

Also, I did a little research on Yelp and found several other great camping places near Rockford that TedVillaire didn't mention. Campgrounds like Pearl Lake in South Beloit, Blackhawk Valley in Rockford, Emerald Acres Campground in Pearl City, and of course we can't forget Rock Cut State Park in Loves Park either.

Have you ever camped at Paradise Park in Garden Prairie? Or how about Shabonna Lake State Park?

It's been quite a few years since I've been camping, but reading all about these campgrounds is making me get the itch to take a weekend and go really soon.
