Kids around Rockford have been doing something special for our veterans for almost four years and it's time adults do the same.

I don't believe we are doing enough for the men and women of our military, especially our veterans. Though we may think the little things we do it just little, it can go a long way.

Take what US Representative Cheri Bustos (D) started doing in 2013 as a great example. She hands out Valentine's Day card to our Rockford-area veterans. According to WIFR, she's been doing it since she got into office.

The cards, often handwritten and drawn by elementary students, are a little unexpected gift that can bring joy to men and women that sacrificed so much.

It's a great way to draw attention to our children this is a day you can thank our veterans in addition to the standard holidays of memorial day and veterans day," she said. (WIFR)

How long can it to make a Valentine's Day card for a hero, five minutes? Ten minutes, tops?

If you would like to take a few minutes out of your day to do something unexpected for someone that paid a big price for your freedom, make that card (or as many as you'd like) and snail mail or deliver to Cheri Bustos' office.
