Sitting U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia passed away on Saturday.

The New York Times reports  that he was found at a resort in West Texas, according to a statement from Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.

The statement reads :

He was an extraordinary individual and jurist, admired and treasured by his colleagues, His passing is a great loss to the Court and the country he so loyally served.

The cause of death was not immediately released.

 

Scalia was the longest serving member on the current Supreme Court and was considered one of the most conservative members of the high court. He was sworn in in 1986 and was the first Italian American to serve on the Supreme Court.
