Sugarland Share ‘Bigger’ Title Track [LISTEN]
The lead track on Bigger, the song of the same name was penned by Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. Driven by hand claps and a prominent drum beat, Nettles' vocals encourage listeners, "Don't give up ... Believe me, love, yeah, you're gonna be bigger."
"People walkin' around like the world's about to end / And if you're asking me, my mind would agree / These days, we all feel small my friend," Nettles sings in the first verse of "Bigger." "It's gettin' harder and harder to hold our heads up high / Baby, let's circle the wagons / Show all the dragons they don't all the sky / We know how to fly / Gravity can't hold us down ..."
"Bigger" is one of 11 songs on Bigger. Bush and Nettles co-wrote nine of those tracks together; of the other two songs, one was co-written by Bush, Nettles and Tim Owens ("Love Me Like I'm Leaving"), while the other, a track named "Babe," was co-written by Taylor Swift and Pat Monahan of the band Train. Swift is also featured on that song; she is the album's only special guest.
Bigger is due out on June 8. It will be Sugarland's sixth studio album, and their first since 2010's The Incredible Machine. Bush and Nettles put the duo on hiatus in 2012, and have pursued solo projects, acting (Nettles) and production work (Bush) in the years since.
“We have always enjoyed playing in the margins and stretching the format. But it’s fun to have taken this time away and seen how the format has expanded and how music has evolved," Nettles says. “Before, we were playing in the margins. Now, the margins have moved, and that’s fun to hear.”
