An event that promised to bring a giant water slide to downtown Rockford streets on Labor Day weekend has been canceled.

The Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Wednesday that Slide the City will not be making a local appearance.

According to a press release from the RACVB, Slide the City has emailed ticket holders to inform them of the cancellation.

“Hey Sliders! Due to a lack of participant sign ups, we had to cancel our Rockford Slide the City event. We are as disappointed as you are that the event has to be canceled, and are so sorry for inconveniences caused.

“Those who purchased tickets will be refunded in full. After you receive a refund confirmation from us, expect a return of funds to the credit card used to make the purchase within 5 to 10 business days. Please be aware it can take your financial institution up to 10 days after our processing to place the refund back into your account.”

The convention and visitors bureau worked with SocialTechPop to promote the Rockford event. Slide the City has canceled events in other locations as well.

“RACVB is disappointed that Slide the City and SocialTechPop had to cancel their event. We had assisted the organizers in their plans to come to Rockford and were excited about the opportunity for the city to host this event. It’s unfortunate that they’ve had to cancel events throughout the country, including Rockford,” said Josh Albrecht, RACVB Director of Marketing & Public Affairs.
