Returning SIU students placed in the Brush towers down in Carbondale will be relocated to Thompson Point with new students, according to The Southern Illinoisian. In a press release, SIU officials sited creating a closer community and bringing more traffic to the Student Center. But some will argue it's due to enrollment dropping at the college. According to TSI,

Montemagno said that although declines in enrollment contributed to the decision, it was primarily propelled by efforts to increase student engagement.

The Chancellor says the campus may return to housing students on both sides of the campus but for now, this is how it will be.

As we rebuild enrollment in the years ahead, we will always have the option of having students on both sides of campus again,” he said. “For now, we can best serve students by making sure that they are part of a vibrant and active community.

No other SIU housing will be affected and The Gathering Place Snack Shop will be moved o University Hall.
