Rockford residents are so blessed to have so many cool, locally owned businesses to shop at, and you  will be able to check out a ton of them all in one location this weekend.

Shopping local is something that is always pushed around the holiday season. Not only is it a great way to boost our local economy, but it's also a fabulous way to support and celebrate the success of so many of our neighbors and community members. It's a proven statistic that for every $100 spent in a locally owned business, 68% percent of that money stays in the local economy; only 32% stays local when you shop at a national chain. Something very important to think about this holiday season.

Here's the two shop local events you should check out this weekend in Rockford:

  • Shop On State - Thursday, December 8 from 5 to 9 p.m. Shop and enjoy the businesses of downtown Rockford, plus enjoy carolers and a visit with Santa at City Hall.
  • A Local Holiday Market - Saturday, December 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rockford University on East State Street. Shop several local businesses, crafters and artisans all in one place. Unique gifts starting at $5 and up. Free to attend and free parking.

Happy Rockford shopping, y'all!
