With Thanksgiving literally right around the corner we have plenty to be thankful for, including those serving in the military.

Now you can send a thank you to a service man or woman with "Operation Thanksgiving Turkey."

The Rochelle News Leader reports that we can help brighten a member of military's day by sending them a thank you note or drawing through the Rochelle's "Operation Thanksgiving Turkey".

Rochell resident, Kirsti Reid, "is heading a campaign called, 'Operation Thanksgiving Turkey,' as a way to offer thanks to those who won’t be home for Thanksgiving. Sending a thank you greeting or drawing a picture on a piece of paper can go a long way to those serving in the military."

Kirsti said she got the idea from her fiance', Troy Arreguin, who is currently serving in the military on a ship overseas.  She regularly sends him care packages filled with letters and cards and knows how happy he is to receive them.

She will be "collecting the cards and drawings to send in time for Thanksgiving, and can be dropped off at ALM Fine Cabinetry and Ray’s Merchandise in Rochelle. All items must be dropped of by 12 noon this Wednesday, November 11th.

ALM Fine Cabinetry - 314 N. 6th street Rochelle, IL 61068

Ray's Merchandise - 316 N. 6th Street Rochelle, IL 61068

She will also be collecting and sending Christmas greetings, in a similar campaign called, “Operation Christmas Cards.” The deadline for greetings to be sent is Dec. 9.
