McDonald’s plans to hand out more than 1,000 backpacks to kids in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

The owner of the Rochelle McDonald’s says giving back by giving to our youth is part of the fast food chain's mission.

McDonald’s is working with restaurant owners in Rockford, Beloit, Belvidere, and Oregon to give away backpacks as well.

In the Belvidere community, local owner, Maureen Koteles, will work with the Belvidere Area Chamber of Commerce to distribute backpacks to schools in the area.

Beloit area restaurants, locally owned by Guy Bucciferro, will welcome the school year with Merrill and Hackett Elementary Schools on August 27. Backpacks will be distributed during their Back to School events—5:00-6:30 p.m. and 4:30-6:00 p.m.

According to WIFR TV 23, Across Rockford, local Supervisor Jorge Hernandez and his team will partner with the Golden Apple Foundation to spread the backpacks throughout the community.

In Oregon, local Owner Chuck Plock, will work with local community organizations and elementary schools prior to the start of the new school year.

In many cases, Ronald McDonald has been doing the honors of handing out the education gifts.
