The Irish Marching Society has announced that the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in downtown Rockford will take place on Saturday, March 12, 2016 starting at 3 p.m., but the future of the parade is in jeopardy, and they are now asking for the community's help.

According to the Rockford Register Star; the city of Rockford is charging fees to parade organizers, and the Irish Marching Society is required to pay $2,200 to hold this year's parade. It's no surprise that this non-profit who never charges families or other non-profits to march, is having a hard time coming up with the money needed to host the beloved event.

Here's where we come in. The Irish Marching Society has set up a place on their website where we can donate funds to support the parade, and they are asking us to donate generously. If you've ever decked yourself out in green and celebrated Irish heritage and fun at the parade, or if you want to make sure this yearly tradition sticks around for generations to come, please donate here now.

Also, don't forget to mark your calendars for the Irish Marching Society's post-parade party being held at Prairie Street Brewhouse from 4:30 to 8 p.m. You can buy tickets for that in advance now through the marching society's website as well.
