Mother Nature may have pulled through at the last minute with a white Christmas, but Rockford's Snow Park at Alpine Hills was one step ahead of her.

For the last few weeks Rockford Park District staff has been hard at work making snow for tubing at snowboarding fun at the Snow Park at Alpine Hills located at 4402 Larson Ave. in Rockford, and they officially opened for the 2017/2018 season over the holiday weekend.

If you've never been to the snow park before, it features 5 acres of separate tubing and terrain park areas so visitors of all ages and abilities can have a lot of snow-filled fun.

The Snow Park at Alpine Hills' normal winter hours of operation are Thursdays and Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., but they do have special hours for the kiddos to enjoy during their winter break.

Weather permitting, the Snow Park will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Saturday, December 30; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve; 2 to 8 p.m. on New Year's Day and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. again Tuesday, January 2 through Saturday, January 7.

Extreme wind chills and other weather hazards will cause the park to close for the day. so be sure to check out the Snow Park at Alpine Hills Facebook page or the Rockford Park District Rainout Line to make sure the park is open before heading out.
