I love to take my kids for walks along the Rock River during the summer, so I am ecstatic to hear that even more family friendly activities will be coming to this city hot spot soon!

The Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners recently approved a partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Rockford to build a Children’s Exploration Center for Nicholas Conservatory visitors and bike bath users to enjoy.

According to the Rockford Register Star, the plan for the Children’s Exploration Center include;

a big kids play area for children 5 to 12 years old; a tots play area for children 2 to 5 years old; a sensory garden, water play area, restroom and picnic building; a trolley stop; and pathways and expanded parking.”

It will be built by the Symbol, and construction on the Tots Play Area will be the first completed. Development begins this Fall and will hopefully be completed by early summer of 2017. The construction for the other phases of the Children’s Exploration Center will begin after the tots area is completed, and after more money is raised to complete the project.
