A couple weeks ago the family of Rockford's Mr. 4th of July, Joe Marino, warned us that his days were numbered and he would be finding his place in Heaven soon, and sadly, that day has come.

Joe's son, Mike Marino, posted this message on Facebook early Wednesday morning, and it broke our hearts.

When you are gathered with your family this weekend, please take a moment to be thankful for Mr. Marino's years of devotion, selflessness and countless happy family memories.

Thank you, Mr. 4th of July, for giving Rockford so much to be proud of. This city will never be the same without you, you were truly one in a million. Thank you, God Bless, and rest easy. You will be definitely be missed and thought of every time my children's eyes come alive with wonder watching the sky on the 4th of July.
