Sure, you've taken the bus, you've taken a taxi, but have you taken an Uber?

Uber a form of a taxi service and it could soon be on it's way to the Forest city and all you need is smart phone to use it. Uber is a ride service that connects riders to drivers through their phone Ap.

If Mayor Morrissey gets his way, it could be in Rockford by the end of this year.

Uber says:

We make cities more accessible, opening up more possibilities for riders and more business for drivers. From our founding in 2009 to our launches in over 200 cities today, Uber's rapidly expanding global presence continues to bring people and their cities closer. The smart-phone app offers a taxi like service with a network of freelance drivers who use their own cars to shuttle passengers around town.

WIFR-TV reports that Mayor Larry Morrissey said that earlier this week he met with the owner of Uber to talk about bringing the service to Rockford. The mayor believes it's a low cost solution since there are not a lot of taxi services in Rockford.

Morrissey told WIFR: "You know student life, work life and family life are the three things we want to connect in a low cost quality transportation solution so we thing Uber we will be able to take advantage of"

Uber operates, quite successfully, in Chicago and many cities across the country.

The average Uber Driver makes between $15 - $21 an hour.
