When I was a child, the one thing I always wanted, because I was an only child, was a dog.

Unfortunately, I never got one. Turns out, begging and crying for a puppy isn't as effective as one would think that it is; but I was 7, what did I know?

I'll tell you what I didn't know- how to write a persuasive argument. That might have done the trick, considering that this Rockford third grader's persuasive writing assignment almost convinced me to get her another dog, and she's not even my child.

It didn't quite have the same effect on her mom and dad, but they were pretty impressed with her pretty valid points.

Worst case scenario, she gets the hamster, right?
