The World's Largest Swim Lesson is happening Thursday, June 22, 2017, and the Rockford Park District is participating in the attempt to beat last year's Guinness World Record.

If you've spent anytime on social media lately, you've probably seen the videos of "dry drowning". Scares. Me. To. Death. My family spends a lot of time on the water at our cabin in Wisconsin, so swim lessons are a must for my girls. I want them to feel comfortable around water, and it's been proven that swimming lessons reduce the risk of drowning in kids ages 1 to 4 by 88 percent. I believe swim lessons are one of the most important things you can do for your kids, so I hope everyone takes advantage of the free swim lessons offered tomorrow at several Rockford Park District pools.

The World's Largest Swim Lesson is FREE to take part in for kids 3 and older, and will be held at these RPD locations and times on Thursday, June 22:

  • Magic Waters Waterpark, 7820 CherryVale N. Blvd., Cherry Valley – 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Harkins Aquatic Center, 910 Acorn Street, Rockford – 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Alpine Pool, 4310 Newburg Road, Rockford – 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Sand Park Pool, 1041 E. Riverside Blvd., Loves Park – 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Kids will be taught basic swimming skills and swimming safety during this free lesson. Families that wish to stay and enjoy the facility after the swimming lesson is finished, will need to pay admission.
