When I was young, I just loved going to the park. Playing on the playground, having fun with my friends and even having picnic's with the family. City parks are a great place to spend time with your loved ones or even go for a walk. These days its tough to get the much needed funds it takes for park up-keep, improvements and new playground equipment. Luckily, the Rockford Park District just received a $250,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Resources.

It looks like Washington Park will see some improvements in the coming months. Illinois Senator Steve Stadelman said the improvements will help to create jobs and improve the quality of life around the park. He also went on to say " Maintaining safe and clean parks is a crucial steps in improving our community's quality of life.

The Illinois Department of Resources has issued more than $28 million dollars to help fund 78 projects throughout the state. We have the Open space land acquisition and Development Program to thank for the grant.
