Officials say the suspect recently entered a resident’s home on the southeast side of the city after claiming they were there to test the water. The impostor reportedly then said the customer was owed money and asked for change for a $100 bill.  Officials say the person was not a City of Rockford employee, did not have a City ID, nor was he in a City uniform. There has only been one reported incident at this time.

The city of Rockford says the Water Division occasionally will need to visit resident’s homes to check on water problems or look at the water meter.  But they say all Water Division employees will be in uniform and will carry a City of Rockford ID on them. They'll also be driving a City of Rockford vehicle with decals on the side of the vehicle.

If you see any suspicious behavior, you're asked to call 911 or Rockford Crimestoppers.
