As we gear up for the 4th of July, there is more than one forecast that we need to pay attention to.

With the fear of the Zika virus, mosquitoes are going to be on the minds of many this weekend. There is a forecast for the probability of mosquito activity in the Rockford area. Accuweather.com takes the current and past weather conditions and gives a number grade for how much they will be around. According to the forecast, they give us a 5, which is high.

Since many of you will be heading down to the river on Monday, here are some ideas to keep you from dealing with those annoying bites:

1. Make sure to wear light clothing.

2. Pick a breezy spot to watch the fireworks. Anything over 1 mph will make flying difficult. Also, use a fan.

3. Don't waste money on citronella candles. Unless the smoke is between you and the mosquito, they don't work.

4. Wear long sleeve clothing, including shirts and pants.

5. DEET! That stuff works.

Make sure to have fun this weekend, and to make sure you stay safe from those annoying mosquitoes.
