Rockford Makes List Of Must See Sports Attractions In Illinois

Think of all the great sports attractions to see and do in Illinois.

This year is the state's bicentennial. To celebrate, the Chicago Tribune has created a bucket list of items to check out.

This month is featuring "20 must-see sports attractions in Illinois."

Included on that list is a Forest City favorite, the Rockford Peaches.

Here's what they say about the Peaches...

"Penny Marshall's 1992 film "A League of Their Own" immortalized the Rockford Peaches, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League team formed during World War II by Phil Wrigley of Cubs and chewing gum fame. The Peaches played at Beyer Stadium from 1943 to '54, racking up several league championships along the way. You can still catch a women's baseball game at the renovated venue, now proud home of the Rockford Starfires."

Definitely, something to be proud of in our city.
