Rockford's garbage days are jumbled this week, so Rock River Disposal explains what will happen and asks for a little help in return.

The record-breaking winter weather has caused closures and delays that many of us have not experienced in our lives outside of 9/11. US Mail, UPS, Amazon, government offices, even some bars closed because of the cold. Garbage collection even stopped. I've never seen that in my life that I can remember. But, now that collection will resume, Rock River Disposal is explaining how they will catch up and also asking a favor from residents.

Here's the easiest way to explain the collection process. Wednesday's garbage day is now today (Thursday) and Thursday's pickup is tomorrow (Friday). Obviously, Friday's trash will be collected on Saturday.

That favor though is really easy. If it (your trash) can wait one more week to be collected, only take to the street what is necessary, according to WIFR.com,

Rock River Disposal is encouraging residents to only put out items absolutely necessary for pick-up this week and hold garbage that could be held for next week if possible. This comes in an effort to limit workers to outdoor exposure.

Hopefully, there won't be much more weather delays because of extreme temperatures in the near future.
