Remember last March when the news broke that Olson Lake at Rock Cut State Park wouldn't be open for swimming during the summer of 2017? Then do you remember in July when the rumor was that Olson Lake could reopen before the summer was over?

What a confusing mess, right? Well, it appears the future of Olson Lake is still up in the air as we get ready to begin the Summer of 2018. 😠😠😠

Last summer the water at Olson Lake was tested again and eventually deemed safe for swimming, so it appeared everything was on track for reopening the lake in 2018.

Or maybe that was just wishful thinking...

State Representative John Cabello recently met with DNR’s legislative liaison Brad Carlson and told the Rockford Register Star;

(Carlson) told me the beach is not opening because the Winnebago County Health Department said there has to be a working shower house with hot water. That would cost DNR $200,000 and they don’t have the money...

And even if that issue could be settled, DNR has not found a concessionaire to operate the beach.

So Olson Lake can't reopen because it doesn't have a shower and a place to buy a hot dog at the lake...in a park?

Anyone else think this is ludicrous?!?

Get your act together, Illinois, and give us the straight story about the future of Olson Lake. I'm over the mumble-jumble and confusing excuses.
