It's back to school time and that means between picking up notebooks, pens, pencils and other school supplies kids are going to need new gym shoes for P.E.

One Rochelle resident has made it his mission this week to collect athletic shoes for needy elementary kids.

The Rochelle News-Leader reports that local resident and health coach, Brad Schabacker, will be collecting new and gently used athletic shoes for Rochelle Elementary kids this week. With the last day for the collection on Friday.

Youth sizes of the gym shoes may be dropped off at these locations around Rochelle:

Meyers Furniture - 209 Powers Road Rochelle, IL

Anytime Fitness - 330 Eagle Drive Rochelle, IL

Health & Wellness Center Rochelle Community Hospital - 900 N 2nd Street Rochelle, IL

Mr. Schabacker said that the reason he's doing this is because "I want to invest in our youth to promote physical activity at a young age. Part of being healthy is having good self-esteem and confidence! By providing shoes to those kids they will not have to worry about sitting out of certain activities.”

Wow! I think that is such a great idea. Just another example of someone doing a good deed to help others out.
