Riverview Ice House is celebrating their 40th on the 4th, and they want you to be a part of the celebration!

If you're planning on bringing the family to downtown Rockford for the 4th of July parade and fireworks spectacular anyway this Saturday, better plan on getting there a few hours earlier. The 40th Anniversary celebration at the Riverview Ice House starts at 1 p.m. and will feature an open house, free skating lessons and public ice skating, and more!

Here's the timeline of celebration events so your family can plan accordingly:

  • 1 p.m.  to 4 p.m. - Open House which includes tours, history display, family crafts, activities and refreshments.
  • 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. - Free skating lesson. Limited spots available, so pre-registration is preferred. Call 815-969-4069 or go to rockfordparkdistrict.org for more information.
  • 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. - Skating exhibition and short program.
  • 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Free public skating
