As a kid, you can probably remember when the weather warmed up you wanted to get out side and have fun. Every kid loves to go to an amusement park, right?

Growing up in Northern Illinois,  Adventureland in Addison, IL was an annual stop for my family back in the 1970's.

Long gone are the days of having a local amusement park in the neighborhood or within reasonable driving distance, but if you lived in the Chicago suburbs in the 1960's or 1970's you had Adventureland to look forward to when summer rolled around. During the peak of it's popularity, Adventureland was the largest Amusement park in Illinois.

Adventureland opened up in 1961 at the intersection of Medinah Road and Lake Street in Addison and remained part of kiddie culture until it closed in 1977. Six Flags in Gurnee  opened up in 1976 which many people believe led to the demise of Adventureland

Among the rides you could go on:

  • Dizzy Hofbrauhaus
  • The Scrambler
  • Crash 'n Splash Torpedo Tubs
  • Western Round-Up
  • Bumper Cars
  • The Super Italian Bobs (Roller coaster)
