Mom texts: No longer exclusively good for alerts to the full moon, or passive-aggressive guilt trips. As Olivia Munn has demonstrated, they also have the power to stop Hollywood engagement rumors dead in their tracks.

The X-Men: Apocalypse actress, who will square off against Kevin Hart on tonight's Lip Sync Battlehas recently been the subject of engagement rumors with football player Aaron Rodgers — a topic her mother breached via a text thread Munn's since posted to Instagram. In the photo above, Munn's mother jokingly says she feels slighted for not hearing about the big news before the press, but Munn's reply insists the impending wedding is just a rumor.

"You know you shouldn't believe gossip on the internet," Munn's text reads. "If I was engaged, I promise you'd be like the 8th person to know. Maybe 9th. But definitely way before the internet."

"Okay, sound good," Munn's mother replies. If only each SMS with a parent went over so easily...

Munn's message is the perfect way to mitigate gossip and eliminate any potential ambiguity in interviews.

"Since I'm doing press for the next few days, I didn't want to have to answer the same question over and over," she writes. "So instead, I'm going to let my text conversation with my Asian mom help me out."
