A longtime staple of downtown DeKalb has announced it's closure.

After 35 years in the restaurant business, O'Leary's owners Mel and Deborah Witmer announced they will be closing the iconic DeKalb downtown establishment in two weeks.

O'Leary's Irish Pub made the announcement on it's Facebook page on Friday.

According to a report in the Daily Chronicle:

Witmer said business at the restaurant has been good with a lot of local support, despite the shrinking student population at Northern Illinois University. He said there's still a lot of opportunity for a restaurant to be successful to be successful in the space, especially if the new owner continues to offer the additional banquet space for community use.

The City of DeKalb is looking for a new business to take over the iconic downtown property.
