Northern Illinois University in Dekalb says that their number one priority is community safety, and according to a new report out from the National Council for Home Safety and Security, they're doing a pretty good job of it.

NIU comes in at #65 on the National Council for Home Safety and Security list, with only 3 other Illinois colleges ranking higher. Northwestern University in Evanston comes in at #41, while Illinois State University in Normal holds the #33 spot. Chamberlain College of Nursing in Addison is #24.

To our north in Wisconsin, only two schools made the list. The University of Wisconsin at Madison is #69, and the Madison Area Technical College is #68.

The top, or safest school on the list (out of 2,167 colleges and universities with a student population of greater than 15,000 that were studied) is the University of New Hampshire in Durham.
