We are one week away from the official start of summer. That means hot temperatures, outdoor parties and mosquitoes!A new list came out listing the top ten worst cities for mosquitoes. Chicago landed on the list at number two. The list is based of the number of customer that needed service for the pest by the pest control company Orkin.

As we continue into the Great 98.5 Days of Summer, there are ways to keep safe from mosquitoes. With the Zika virus making the rounds in the news, and the threat of West Nile Virus always around, now is the time to take all the precautions you can. Here are a few tips.

1. Eliminate standing water anywhere around your house

According to the list:

"Remove standing water from gutters, buckets, toys and other containers, as mosquitoes can breed in just a few inches of standing water. Change water weekly in bird baths, fountains, potted plants and any containers that hold standing water. Keep pool water treated and circulating."

2. Wear long sleeved pants and shirts if you know you are going to be in an area that could be infested with mosquitoes. Also, use mosquito repellant on exposed areas.

3. Close off entry points

According to the list:

"Use air-conditioning when possible. Close gaps around windows and in walls. Repair and use window and door screens to help prevent entry."

Mosquitoes can last as long as October, if the weather stays warm. I just want you to make sure you stay safe.
