MGM Resorts International announced last week that beginning sometime between April and June of 2016, patrons of their Las Vegas Strip resorts will now have to pay for parking.

In this announcement, the company also said they are planning to build a new 3,000 space parking structure near the northwest corner of the Excalibur with construction on it beginning this Spring.

MGM Resorts International operates nine Strip developments including; the CityCenter complex, MGM Grand, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, and The Mirage. Self-parking at Circus Circus will still be free, but there will now be a charge for valet parking at the casino. The Signature Towers and the Crystals and Mandalay Bay Place shopping malls will also be exempt from the parking fees.

The reason for the break in the Vegas long standing"no fee for parking" tradition? Besides the potential of bringing in millions of dollars annually, these new parking fees will fall in line with the casinos' focus on growing their database of gamblers through reward programs.

You know what we think the reason is? The company fears that patrons of the new Las Vegas Arena will be using up all their casinos' free parking spots to avoid paying parking fees at the venue. Just a thought....

Good thing you won't have to worry about where to park your car if you win the trip for two to Vegas to see George Strait at the Las Vegas Arena this April from Q98.5! What's that? You haven't signed up yet?!? Do it right now, below.
