Move over Grapefruit and Cabbage Soup Diet, the Spud Diet may be the next new thing for weight loss.

Well, for one man it is. As he claims he's lost over 30 pounds in 40 days by eating nothing but potatoes.

WGN shared this article about Andrew Taylor, who's lost over 30 pounds in 40 days by eating nothing but potatoes.

That's right POTATOES. Can you imagine?

Andrew, started out 2016 weighing 333 pounds and says he decided to go on a spud diet after recognizing his “unhealthy relationship” with food.

He is eating only sweet potatoes or white potatoes and he's serving them boiled, mashed and baked. To give them flavor, he seasons them with herbs, spices and sauce.

He says that "I feel amazing,” and he plans to "to eat nothing else [just potatoes] for 2016."

He is seeking his doctor advice and getting regular medical care to monitor his health and will only "give up the diet if his health is affected."

"As a precaution, he’s taking B-12 supplements and adding calcium-fortified organic soy milk to his mashed potatoes. But the potatoes provide more than enough protein, iron, amino acids, and vitamin C.

If you're wondering if he's getting sick and tired of eating just potatoes Andrew says "Not really." He says that "he doesn’t miss other foods and is actually 'quite happy with my boring potato meals.'”

OK then. To each his own, I guess.

I like potatoes but I don't think I would want a steady diet of those three times a day. It would remind me of the cabbage soup diet I tried several years ago after about the third day I was sick of soup and cabbage.

However, if he has an unhealthy relationship with food, then eating only potatoes would certainly take the guess work out of meals and preparation. I just wonder in the long run how this will effect him? Will he be able to transition to other foods when he's reached his goal weight?

Hmmm... It makes you wonder. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
