Bicycles are stolen, not only during the warm summer months but all year round. One local police department is looking to reunite you with your missing bike.

Loves Park Police say they are looking for people who have had a bike stolen from them, within the last eight months. The department has announced they have recovered 40 bicycles since May, and are looking for their owners. If you know of someone who has had their bike stolen, you are urged to call the Loves Park Police at (815) 654-5015 to see if they may have recovered it.

So what happens if the bikes are not claimed? Actually, something pretty cool. Loves Park police said:

Last May we transferred 80 bicycles that had been recovered by officers to Rock River Multisport. Rock River Multisport fixed the bikes up and donated them to other charitable organizations working with kids and adults in need of assistance in Loves Park and the Stateline area.

For the 40 new bikes recovered, the unclaimed bikes will eventually be transferred to an area charitable organization.
